The film Ramadan America has recently been released. The executive producer, Asad Butt, aims to present a more authentic portrayal of Muslims in Hollywood. In an interview with 7NEWS, Butt discussed the steps he took to break down barriers.
“This marks the first time a feature-length movie has been made in the United States about our holiday, which is quite remarkable,” said Executive Producer Asad Butt. “Accurate representation matters because otherwise, others may misrepresent our stories. By focusing on narratives related to our culture, background, ethnicity, and religion, we achieve a more faithful depiction.”
Ramadan America contains 5 parts
The movie comprises five short films, all starring and directed by Muslim-Americans. Notably, Butt has strong ties to Boston; he is a professor at Boston University’s Los Angeles campus, and students from the university contributed to the film’s production.
