On Monday, Oregon authorities announced that the holder of the winning Powerball jackpot ticket, which correctly matched all six numbers from Saturday’s draw, stepped forward to claim the $1.3 billion jackpot prize.
According to a statement from the Oregon Lottery, the winning lottery ticket was acquired at a Plaid Pantry store located in the city’s northeastern area.
The Oregon Lottery is currently engaged with the winner in a comprehensive process that includes stringent security and verification procedures, which must be completed before the winner’s identity can be disclosed.
Mike Wells, the Director of the Oregon Lottery, expressed that this jackpot win is unparalleled in the organization’s history. He emphasized that they are meticulously confirming the winner’s legitimacy prior to disbursing the prize funds.
Two options for Powerball jackpot payment
The winner has the option to receive the jackpot’s cash value of $621 million in a single payment, as opposed to the structured annuity option spread over 30 years, which includes an initial disbursement followed by 29 yearly payments. It’s important to note that this prize will be reduced by federal and Oregon state taxes. This Powerball jackpot ranks as the fourth highest ever recorded and stands as the eighth largest in the annals of U.S. jackpot games, as per the records of the Oregon Lottery.
The news that one of the 104 Plaid Pantry stores in Oregon sold the winning Powerball ticket worth $1.3 billion has brought great excitement to the company, shared Jonathan Polonsky, the President and CEO of Plaid Pantry.
